Ohio High Point Career Center, Ponitz Career and Technology Center, and Lancaster High School all had multiple student teams compete.
Each team had 30 minutes to prepare their best burger creation on butane burners without the use of water or electricity. There were 10 industry judges from around Ohio who scored the competition in the areas of product check-in, sanitarian, work skills, taste and appearance, menu and recipe.
The third place burger, West Coast Burger which included kale, sliced mushrooms, barbeque sauce, avocado slices and provolone cheese, was prepared by Jake Glenaman.
The Island Burger placed second and included smoked cheddar cheese, spam, and lettuce on a challah bun prepared by Thomas Anders and Rebekah Steelman.
The winning burger, the Hawaiian Burger, bested the competition with its combination of pineapple slices, teriyaki sauce, red onion, provolone cheese as well as secret ingredient for added flavor on a challah bun prepared by Hannah Glenn and Morgan Philbrick.
The Ohio Beef Council sponsored this event and provided the beef used to prepare the burgers. The Beef Council presented trophies to the winning team as well as all three teams won scholarships to Sullivan University.
