Beckles started her career in restaurants when she was just 15 years old at Yee’s Garden Chinese Restaurant in Toledo, where she handled all of their to-go orders.
She believes that's when she was “bitten by the restaurant bug.”
She loved getting to meet different people on a daily basis and hearing their story. If she was able to make a small difference in their day, she thought it always added a lot to her own day.
When she started college at the University of Cincinnati, she worked at LaRosa’s Pizza in Clifton. It helped her pay her way through school. LaRosa’s was where Beckles started to see that she could make a career out of the restaurant business.
She then worked at Willie’s Sports Café, which was a locally-owned sports café where all of the Cincinnati sports fans as well as the Cincinnati sports figures would hang out.
Willies allowed her, at a young age, to learn on that she loved teaching, coaching, and developing people as well as learning what operations looked like in a multi-million dollar business. By now, she was officially hooked to the restaurant industry and there was no turning back.
Beckles had a great run at Willie’s and decided to branch out. On May 1, 1995, she started with the Bistro Group as a server at The Covington Landing Fridays. In December of 1995 Daryl started her management training and her career began with Fridays. She was a manager, kitchen manager, associate general manager, and general manager. In 2006 she became the training manager for the Bistro Group which, at that time, owned five McAlister’s Deli and 27 TGI Friday’s.
In 2015, Daryl took on the role of Director of Human Resources for The Bistro Group. Her dedication to the profession of training, development and human resources has been a perfect fit because she feel that she is contributing to the betterment of people and the business on a daily basis.
For fun she likes to travel, do yoga, cook, explore new restaurants and still has dreams of learning how to golf someday.
She is married and has six step-children and a new puppy.
