OHIO FOOD SAFETY CODE

WHAT IS THE OHIO UNIFORM FOOD SAFETY CODE?

Ohio's Food Safety Program provides assistance in all aspects of food safety to local health department staff, the food service industry and the general public. Technical experts are available to provide current information on food safety as it applies to licensable food service operations (e.g., restaurants, vending machine locations, mobile and temporary food service operations). The Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code is a guide for all foodservice establishments to follow. The deadline for completing level two certification training was March 1, 2017.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?

On January 7, 2016 the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Department of Agriculture provided training on revisions to the Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code. WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?

The ServSafe® Manager course is an approved course to meet the criteria for the Ohio Department of Health's Level II certification. The Here's what to expect from a ServSafe Manager’s class, conducted either online or in-person.

where can i take the exam?

1. The exam must be given by a proctor or the course administrator.

2. The course administrator submits the class roster and passing scores to the Ohio Department of Health.

3. Then the Ohio Department of Health distributes Ohio Level Two certificates – to the exam administrator, who subsequently distributes them to the student.

4. Steps to apply for reciprocity with the Ohio Department of Health.

5. Also, the facility’s Person-in-Charge (PIC) is required to ensure that a Food Service Operation/Retail Food Establishment (FSO/RFE) have a written procedure for employees to follow when responding to vomiting and diarrheal events.
